well it's been quite a while since i've done a truthful tuesday so i'm a bit nervous to confess that...i have been listening to katy perry. her newest album makes me feel like a giddy little teenage girl filled with hope. i like it so much, in fact, that i'm going to buy it today. now, i don't know if you've gotten the gist of what my musical taste is, but this is not it. but every time i hear her song teenage dream i just start dancing and singing along like my 15 year-old self would. what can i say? i'm a sucker for some cheese and positivity. and even if you don't like the girl, you've got to hand it to her for this video, truly uplifting and inspiring. so, enjoy...and judge away, i don't mind ;)

oooh that smell!
i was going to make this my "truthful tuesday" post but obviously didn't get around to it yesterday. here it is, truthful tuesday on a wednesday.
as i told you briefly before, stephen built a new closet for me for our anniversary. we live in an old, old apartment and to say the closets are less than stellar would be a grand understatement. so when stephen ripped out my old closet and replaced it with a new, beautiful, functional closet, i was beyond happy. lately, when i am getting ready or just get out of the shower, i find myself lingering in the closet. yesterday, i got home from the gym, cleaned up and went to my closet. i pulled out my little step-stool and sat right there in it, underneath all the clothes and next to all the shoes. now this isn't a lot of sitting space, but i just can't get over the smell. that smell of freshly cut wood, it's so calming to me. i love when i open the closet door and a whiff of that woody smell comes out.
this isn't the first time i've noticed how much i love that smell; last summer stephen built a staircase in our dining room for my uncle's dock, and even days after he picked it up you could still smell that wood. when we were first married, stephen worked construction and i really liked when he came home all sweaty and smelling like wood, maybe it's that memory that makes me love it even more. in short, i love being married to a carpenter - there is never a shortage of that freshly-cut wood smell! not to mention i love the idea of him being able to build me pretty much anything my little heart desires.
so, any quirky smells you love? maybe ones that provoke certain memories? i would love to hear :)

truthful tuesday: shoes & the "commute"
this morning i got ready for work, put on my cute lil dress, and threw everything in my new, fabulous, cross-body bag. i put on my slip-on tennies, grabbed my bike and was out the door. it wasn't until i was pedaling into the office parking lot that i realized i'd forgotten to throw extra shoes in my bag. the funniest part? i came upstairs to see i had a pair of black peep-toe flats in my desk drawer. i guess my future self somehow told my past self to leave those shoes here (a la bill & ted) and here i am, with perfectly matched shoes on a day i forgot to wear them to work.
happy tuesday ... or should i say shoesday?!

truthful tuesday: meet lucille
say hello to lucille:
we bought lucille in february. you see, stephen and i share a car. by share i mean he drives everyday except saturday and i either ride with him to work or ride my bike when it's nice. so, in preparation of spring and summer we decided it would be fun to buy a scooter for me in order to have a better mode of transportation for cross-town adventures. (note: dallas is the least bike friendly city, with no bike lanes and only one trail) this was the perfect find for me: vintage with lots of character and a unique style.
so why is this on truthful tuesday? well here goes. in the first week that a rode to work, i laid her over right in front of my apartment. it was so embarrassing. i didn't get back on for a few weeks and that was after we took her to the shop and made sure everything was a-ok. (minus a few scratches and bruises) so then i built up my courage and started riding again. one friday i went to meet friends after work and when i was leaving, crashed in front of my friends and many (many!) strangers. as soon as everyone walked away, she ran like a champ. i am beginning to think lucille does not like me.
now, before you're all "oh it's just a scooter, how easy!" let me just clarify that it's a challenge to drive this particular vespa and learning how to shift with my hands and brake with my foot has been the least of my issues. even stephen notes the difficulty. so there you have it. i'm afraid to get back on. i know it will get easier with practice and time, but after that last incident, i've been especially hesitant.
ok there. i feel better now! so tell me friends, what do you drive or ride? is your city bike friendly? if so, maybe i should move...haha!

truthful tuesday - the mint plant
i realize it's been a while since my last truthful tuesday confession, so i have a good one for you today. remember the mint plant i told you about? well, let's discuss. stephen brought home the plant on wednesday and we were both excited to have a new plant! i forgot all about taking the picture of it with all the weekend relaxing and spring cleaning going on...fast forward to sunday. stephen got home from work and i said "hey what did you do with that mint plant?" stephen said "oh i set it outside to get some sunshine." i can only guess that happened on thursday. when i went outside to check on it, the plant was limp and knocked over. it looked horrible. turns out mint plants need minimal sun and we had it sitting out there in full on sun for the two least cloudy days i've seen all year. then i remembered the huge thunderstorm on friday night. oh lord what did we do?! i'm not sure if it's completely dead or possibly able to revive...but there you have it, we killed the mint plant.
in honor of my dear, possibly departed minty, here is a photo of a not-dead plant.

truthful tuesday - when i grow up
hello friends! as of late, i have been thinking about what i want to "be" ... mind you, i am in my late twenties with a blossoming career in a field i love - i work in marketing & communications for a non-profit and could not be more grateful for the amazing opportunity to have a job that is so fulfilling, professionally and personally. however, i can't help but feel that there is something missing. one day i want to go to grad school and pursue a career in public policy, another i'm ready to be back in the fast-paced world of advertising (like, for a minute, and then it's gone), and the next i want to open my own bakery. some of these dreams i've researched thoroughly as if i'm going to up and do it tomorrow, but i always come back to "is this what i want to be when i 'grow up'?"
so tell me, what do you want to be when you grow up? are you already there? do you ever feel that aching need for change? i'd love to know.

truthful tuesday - food confessions
good morning, friends! i hope you are all well. i wanted to share a little tuesday confession with you and hope you enjoy...
i try to be healthy. i really do. eating right, exercising, the usual suspects. for instance, i had stephen buy me the sugarfree something or other vanilla ice cream. i figure i can still kind of indulge and not feel guilty, right? so last night, i put the ice cream on the counter, get out the scoop and my tea cup (smaller portions...see? healthy!) ...then i proceeded to melt nutella in the bottom of the cup, scoop the ice cream, and top off with crushed up girl scout cookies. i just couldn't help myself.
so, what kind of quirky food impulses do you have? i'd love to hear!

truthful tuesday - music edition!
since i've started this blog, i haven't really expressed how much i love music and how important it is in my life - i hope to change this and share some new findings and old experiences. so, let's start with the first, shall we? i get the feeling sometimes when people are asked about their first concert, they might be embarrassed or think it's funny looking back at who they saw. like, "oh it was new kids on the block, i was 8, hahaha!" (of which, i might be a little jealous, shhhh) but i love sharing my first real concert experience. when i turned 10, my parents took me to see sir elton john at the cajun dome in lafayette. it was during "the one" tour and was beyond phenomenal. i probably had gone to some local band shows in our home town, and had attended many musical events since my mom has always been involved in music; but that was my first real, full-on experience at a concert. i remember dancing and doing the "crocodile rock" with my big sis, and crying when he sang "candle in the wind." it was beautiful, and an experience i'll always hold dear.
so what about you? what was your first real concert??

truthful tuesday
in light of this being a semi-new blog with mostly new readers, i thought i'd do a little feature every week getting to know me...and in turn, getting to know you! so is born, "truthful tuesday." let's start with a little confession...
yesterday, while thinking about going to the gym and what was for dinner (these go hand in hand, right?) i thought, "oh it's monday! gossip girl will be on tonight!" so i looked up online whether it would be on and if it was a new episode...not only was gg NOT on last night, i found out that it doesn't start back until march...MARCH! i had a minor freak out. is this normal for a twentysomething married career woman? probably not, but oh well. so i got home from work and told stephen about this outrageous discovery...to which he said "what? march? really?!" and there you have it. not only am i a sucker for gossip girl, but my husband watches it with me...and enjoys it (sorry love, i just ratted you out).
so what about you? do you have any guilty tv pleasures?
