sweater day

well it's technically another "snow day" here in dallas, but really it's an "ice day," so in our house that means sweater day :)

we have been off work/school since tuesday when the weather was blowing in and it's passed now but we are left with highs barely reaching 20 today and streets covered in sheets of ice, so we're off again today.  and in case you didn't know, the super bowl is in town this week so it's already mayhem and the weather is just adding to all the craziness.

i hope wherever you all are you are warm and safe and cozy :)

oh! and thank you thank you all for your sweet comments about bowie.  we are truly blessed and fortunate to have our little miracle dog and his loving big sis!!

tiny tots with their eyes all aglow, will find it hard to sleep tonight

happy christmas eve to all of you.  we will be on our way to tulsa soon, hopefully with quiet roads and clear weather.  remember all the anticipation of this night from when we were little?? i still get kind of giddy, not gonna lie...maybe we'll see santa and his sleigh on our drive! sweet dreams of sugarplums to all of you :)

where the love light gleams

getting everything in order ready to go to tulsa and visit friends and family. it's always hard to have to split the holidays between mine and stephen's families, and so far it hasn't gotten easier, so hopefully this is something that gets better in time.  i'll be missing my family (especially seeing my nieces faces light up when they see what santa brought them!) but luckily have some super in-laws and our t-town friends who are pretty much my family anyway so it's far from being a lonely holiday but you catch my drift :)

i hope you all will be having a lovely christmas surrounded by loved ones.

sign the petition: cut BP's billions in federal contracts!

as you know, i steer clear mostly of politics and whatnot on this blog. but this, this is too much. this oil catastrophe in the gulf is beyond irritating and has become just sickening. being from the gulf coast and seeing it ripped apart because of irresponsible executives playing the blame game just rips my heart out. thankfully, i found this great link on mo pie, please for a petition to urge the EPA to cut federal contracts for BP.

shocking, don't you think?! while people on the gulf are suffering personally and in their businesses from this disaster, BP execs continue to avoid responsibility and reap benefits of being the big bad oil biz. not even to mention the immense effect this is having on the wildlife! it's tragic and outrageous! this needs to stop. please go here and sign the petition.

snow day

on friday, my office and stephen's school were closed so we had a nice little snow day.

we got to play in the snow

& build a snowman

it was so much fun!

...but roxy grew tired of the snow pretty quickly :)

i never, ever had a reason to care about the superbowl...until yesterday.  wow what a game. i'm still riding high on the feeling - i couldn't be more proud of my home team. way to go, saints, you deserved it!!

the trinity

yesterday i texted my mom "for the trinity, yellow onions?" she texted back: "yes - i like sweet ones when i can find them." i chuckled.

no "the trinity?" or "what?" this is the base of all cajun cooking: onion, bell pepper, and celery. only in although many forms of cooking have a starting foundation, but only a cajun-cooking family recognizes "the trinity" as such.

for the superbowl this sunday, in honor of the saints, i shall attempt my very first jambalaya. it's my mom's recipe and i'm equal parts excited and terrified. there is also a special dessert in store but i'm going to wait and surprise you with that one (in hopes that it turns out well). wish me luck!

a little tree cheer

remember our (almost) perfect tree? well here he is, is all his christmas-y glory:

he is adorned with my grandmother's antique ornaments, which i love. they are so classic.

 

 

 

 

the tree is bringing some much needed joy into our living room, and i finally got roxy to stop drinking the water out of the stand. hope your home is feeling cozy and joyful.
