rainy day music

it's bleak and rainy outside...but i must confess that i do enjoy a rainy day (though i wish i could be at home cuddling on the couch to enjoy it ;)).  there are just some songs that are best listened to on rainy days...here are some of mine:

• thom yorke - analyse (though the entire eraser album is a good rainy day one)
• led zeppelin - when the levee breaks
• creedence clearwater revival - who'll stop the rain (or have you ever seen the rain...take your pick!)
• beth orton - concrete sky
• wilco - either way
• ryan adams - oh my god, whatever, etc.
• radiohead - videotape
• otis redding - sitting on the dock of the bay 
• the doors - riders on the storm
• gov't mule - soulshine

...and a real snow day

another storm blew through last thursday night that called for "a dusting up to 1" of snow" and holy moly i wonder what measuring tools they're using!

all in all we got about 5" of pretty, fluffy snow...on top of sheets of ice so it was fun but a bit yikes if you know what i mean! by saturday night the snow had melted substantially and by sunday it was pretty much all gone (from our area, anyway). we watched the big game with some friends and enjoyed the last day of what seemed like an extra long weekend after all those days off!

did you all have a good weekend?? are you freezing still wherever you are?!

oh and ps. what's with all the violence and throwing stuff at people in all the super bowl commercials?! i swear there had to be at least 5 commercials with people throwing stuff at each other!

tornado warning

yesterday we had some major storms in the dallas area, complete with a tornado that went right over our apartment. stephen was at work, so i was just watching out the window (hey, i used to live in oklahoma, it's the thing to do). when the warning came on tv i rushed upstairs to tell my neighbors if they wanted to take cover they could come to our apartment. we waited for a little bit until you could hear something like a train or a jet and the house was shaking a bit. we got in our hall closet: us 3 girls, our 2 dogs and 2 cats. it was a nice little getting to know you moment and we all found it a little silly afterward.

there was no damage to our building, but next door a side door was taken off and there were some trees down in our alley. luckily we were all ok and roxy was a brave and hospitable host.

rainy day

it's a sleepy, rainy day here which made it extra hard to get out of bed after a fun, long weekend.

what's the weather like where you are today?

it might have been a tuesday...

well the good news is my knee swelling and pain is completely gone.  i'm not sure if i just twisted it or something but i'm just going to go with it unless it happens again, then i promise to go to the doc :)

how are you lovelies today? me, well i'm still dreaming of fall. i woke up on saturday morning and it felt like fall - not because it was cooler or anything, but it just felt like fall was upon us. it may have been something in a dream, but who knows. anyway, it was a rude awakening to learn that it would be 106 degrees that day (yuck!)...and thus, it is still summer in texas. on the bright side, the rest of the week we will only be in the low 90's! hooray!

the first thing i want to do when we get a real cool front is cook some jambalaya! it's been far too hot, even in our apartment, to even think of cooking something that isn't simply something quickly sauteed or a grilled cheese sandwich. then maybe i'll go for a bike ride. i miss my bike, it's been too hot! what about you? what's the first thing you'll do when it cools down??

looks like spring

the sun is shining bright...i think it might get above 60 today! don't get me wrong, i do love the winter weather, but i'm also a big fan of having four whole seasons. i'm sure roxy is ready for some warmer weather - when it's cold and dreary i become a bad mom and don't walk her near as much.

so here are a few things i'm looking forward to this spring:

• bike rides in the sun
• farmer's market trips 
• laying in the park with rox
• breezy sundresses (maybe i need to rethink this...my legs are pasty...)
• tulips! we planted some at winter and the bulbs are already coming up...hope they last a little while :)

ps. your comments on the food quirks post cracked me up...i'm glad i'm not the only one with weird food habits!

nice little surprise

we kept hearing about "winter weather" coming through here, but in dallas that usually means one patch of ice and three flurries of snow so i didn't get my hopes up too much.  but when we woke up this morning this was outside my front door

 

snow!! real snow actually sticking (somewhat) to the ground. so i immediately bundled up, put roxy in her little sweater and went out for a walk. 

now, know it's not nearly as newsworthy as what our friends in the northeast are getting, but hey it's something.  hope everyone, everywhere is staying warm and enjoying your day.

happy friday!

it's a beautiful day in dallas, though i'm having a little love/hate relationship with the weather.  i mean, it is still january and today is 70 degrees and sunny. should winter be over already? i haven't worn all my cute scarves and hats! (wait, isn't that what winter's all about?) apparently i'm not the only one who feels this way...what do you think? or is the weather just perfect for you where you are?

what are you up to this weekend? tonight will consist of laundry, cooking, wine, movies and cuddling with roxy. stephen works on fridays so it's my "me time" night. tomorrow will be a nice evening with the girls, trying out a new restaurant...great company and (hopefully) great food? i'm in! sunday my saints play again for the NFC championship...getting nervous.

i'm also hoping to update this blog a little bit...i need something a little more cute and appealing on here, no? loving these little buttons from country girl. if i can learn how to use these, they would be perfect. wish me luck.
